FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How did you get into reiki?
I began meditating in my early 20’s. Shortly thereafter, I noticed a buzzing, tingling energy around me during meditation. This was my first awareness of universal life force energy and my spirit guides. So in a way, I would say that reiki found me! I was intuitively drawn to the path of reiki and it quickly became part of my spiritual practice and offering in the world.
How long have you been practicing and offering reiki?
I have been practicing and offering reiki for over 20 years. I first got attuned to reiki in my early 20’s while spending a month in Asheville, NC with a spiritual teacher. In my quest for learning and studying as much as possible about reiki, I have studied with, and been attuned by, many master level teachers over the course of my life. The ones who have been most influential in my life are Jyogan Hakata-Kohler (one of my level 2 teachers), and Susan Squittieri (one of my master level teachers).
How should I prepare for a reiki session?
Do your best to go to bed at a reasonable time the night before and eat lightly the day of. That’s it!
What happens when I arrive for the session?
When you arrive, we’ll have a short chat over tea to get to know each other. If you’re unfamiliar with reiki, I will give you a brief introduction and explain what you can expect once you’re on the table.
What happens during a reiki session?
During a reiki session, you will lay down fully clothed on a comfortable massage table. There will be soothing music in the background. I will gently place my hands on your shoulders and say a short invocation/prayer. From there, I will gently place my hands on or above your body in various hand positions for about an hour. Your only job during a reiki session is to relax! Towards the end of the session, I will take you on a short shamanic drumming journey. The drum is a wonderful sound healing tool that will help you to align with the natural rhythm of your mind, body, and spirit. It also helps to release and clear old, stagnant energies.
What does reiki feel like?
Reiki is experienced differently by everybody. Many people experience warmth as my hands rest gently on or above their body. Some experience a tingling in or around them. Others actually feel energy moving within themselves. Almost always, people experience a deep sense of relaxation. A reoccurring message from those who come for reiki sessions, is that they feel as if the sun is shining upon them.
Do you 'pick things up' about me during a reiki session?
Reiki sessions are always supported by the unconditional love and grace of my spirit guides and angels. If there is something you need to be aware of, they will relay the message to me clairvoyantly so that I can pass it along to you after the session.
What happens after the session?
After the session, I will provide you with some tips and tools for living a healthier lifestyle that includes meditations and healthy living habits. Whether you implement these tools in your life, is totally up to you. I always follow up within a few days to see how you’re feeling.
How often should I receive reiki?
For some, one session is enough to create a significant shift that lasts for a long period of time. After that initial shift, they might come back anywhere from once a week to once a month to anchor in the shift and stay more consistently rooted in their true-self. For those experiencing chronic health problems, or needing reiki support for conventional medical treatment, I suggest at least once a week (twice per week if possible), for the first month. From there, we’ll tune-in to see what is best moving forward. Essentially, there are no ‘rules’ in reiki as to how often you should get a session. Everybody is unique and thus I always do my best to tune-in to your unique needs and how you can best benefit from reiki.
